The Gombe State Police Command has successfully rescued a 48‑year‑old man who was kidnapped by armed assailants in Tingile Village, Birin Fulani area of Nafada Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Command, the victim was abducted early Wednesday by suspected kidnappers armed with sticks, knives and cutlasses, leaving his son injured in the attack.

During the operation, anti‑kidnapping operatives located the victim in the bush and conducted a successful rescue without any further casualties.

The man was immediately taken into police custody and then transferred to a nearby hospital for medical assessment. Following treatment, he was reunited with his relieved family.

In a press briefing, the Gombe State police spokesman said the combined effort of security personnel and the community’s self-defense groups was crucial to the rescue.

Upon receipt of the distress call, the Gombe State Police Command, working with local hunters and vigilantes, swiftly located and rescued the kidnapped victim,” the police stated.

The victim is now safe, and efforts to apprehend those responsible for this crime are ongoing.”

He added that investigations have begun to trace the abductors’ hideout and determine whether additional suspects are involved. He asked community members to provide useful information to support the police.

Community Praise Police Security Efforts

Residents of Nafada and surrounding communities welcomed the rescue, praising police responsiveness and collaboration this time with local security networks.

Some residents admitted that the presence of joint patrols and community vigilance had helped make the area safer, despite occasional security challenges.

Kidnapping remains a serious concern across parts of northern Nigeria, with residents in rural communities particularly vulnerable.

Following the rescue, the Gombe State Police Command reinterested its commitment to protecting lives and reducing crime in the state.

The command also promised that those arrested in connection with kidnappings will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law once they are apprehended.
