Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled coordinated terrorist assaults in Borno State and Adamawa State, neutralizing scores of insurgents and recovering weapons.
On Friday, terrorists launched a multi-directional attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir.
According to Lt. Solomon Atokolo, Acting Media Information Officer of OPHK, the attackers attempted to breach the defensive perimeter but were met with sustained and overwhelming firepower from Nigerian troops, supported by the Air Component and other aerial platforms.
The firefight lasted over an hour before the insurgents were decisively overpowered and forced to withdraw.
During the engagement, RPG fire damaged troop-carrying vehicles and partially gutted the CCTV control room. Despite this, troops maintained firm control and recovered a cache of weapons, including:
- A 60mm mortar tube and mortar bombs
- Locally fabricated explosives
- Heavy machine gun rounds
- Hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition
Persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms tracked fleeing terrorists, enabling precision airstrikes that neutralised additional fighters and dealt a severe blow to their morale.
Attack in Adamawa State
In the early hours of January 16, 2026, terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari, Madagali LGA under Sector 4 of OPHK.
Troops on alert swiftly engaged the attackers, supported by reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force. The terrorists were repelled without any casualties to Nigerian forces or equipment.
The area was subsequently cleared and scanned for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and booby traps to ensure civilian and troop safety.
Lt. Atokolo emphasised that the sacrifices of personnel highlight their commitment to securing lives and property.
He noted that OPHK troops remain resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action, dismantling their networks, and protecting the integrity of the North-East region.
