Hugo Ekitike Joins Liverpool in £79 Million Deal

Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £79 million.

The 23-year-old French striker signed a six-year contract after Liverpool beat off competition from Newcastle United and Manchester United.

The deal includes £69 million upfront and £10 million in add-ons. “Liverpool was always my priority,” Ekitike said after the announcement.

Ekitike scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists last season, helping Frankfurt qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He also earned a spot in EA Sports’ Bundesliga Team of the Season and was praised for his pace, dribbling, and pressing ability. He ranked among the top five Bundesliga players for expected goals and shot-creating actions.

The Frenchman is expected to join Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season tour in Asia, where the club will face AC Milan in Hong Kong and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.

The match against Milan will be the first football fixture at the newly opened Kai Tak Stadium.

Ekitike becomes Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer, following Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.

His arrival adds depth to Arne Slot’s attacking options as the club prepares to defend its Premier League title.
