Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a ruthless performance on Friday night, thrashing Zambia 5–0 in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The match took place at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.

Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, rising highest to head in Esther Okoronkwo’s free-kick. “We wanted to set the tone early,” she said after the match.

Okoronkwo turned scorer in the 33rd minute, calmly finishing off a flowing move. Chinwendu Ihezuo added a third just before half-time, capitalising on a defensive error. It was her third goal of the tournament.

Falcons Unstoppable, Zambia Outclassed

In the second half, Oluwatosin Demehin made it 4–0 with a powerful header from another set-piece. Substitute Folashade Ijamilusi completed the rout in stoppage time, tapping in Rasheedat Ajibade’s low cross.

Zambia’s star duo Barbra Banda and Grace Chanda were kept quiet throughout. Nigeria’s defence, led by Ashleigh Plumptre and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, remained solid and unbreached.

“We’re proud of the team’s discipline and focus,” said head coach Randy Waldrum. “Momentum is everything at this stage.”

Nigeria remain unbeaten and have yet to concede a goal in the tournament. They’ve scored 12 goals in four matches and will face either South Africa or Senegal in the semi-finals on July 22.

The Falcons are chasing their 10th WAFCON title—a record in African women’s football.
