The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted over 66 parcels of Loud, a potent type of cannabis. Officers found the drugs concealed in green tea packages at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the agency, the seizure happened on Thursday, June 5, 2025. NDLEA received solid intelligence before the drugs arrived at the cargo section of the airport. The consignment came from Thailand through the United Arab Emirates aboard an Emirates Airlines flight.
NDLEA placed the shipment on a watchlist and kept it under close observation for over three weeks. A joint examination involving other stakeholders finally led to the seizure.
“The Loud consignment weighing 62.20kg was concealed inside wraps of green tea that came from Thailand via UAE on an Emirates Airlines flight,” said the agency’s spokesperson.
This effort forms part of NDLEA’s continued campaign to curb illegal drug trafficking through Nigerian airports.
Massive Drug Bust on Lekki-Ajah Road and in Kaduna
In a separate operation along the Lekki-Ajah expressway in Lagos, NDLEA officers seized 1,665kg of skunk, another cannabis strain. Two suspects, Gidado Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi, were arrested.
In Kaduna, NDLEA operatives patrolling the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Tuesday, June 3, arrested 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka. He was found with 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam.
That same day, the agency also arrested 52-year-old wanted drug dealer Kabiru Musa, also known as KB, at Kurmin Mashi. Officers had previously recovered 25.7kg of skunk from his hideout.
Along Auchi Road in Edo State, NDLEA stopped a car driven by 45-year-old Atari Israel. They found 9kg of Loud hidden in the vehicle’s spare tyre compartment.
In Benin City, two young women, Favour Joy and Joy Igwe, were arrested on Tuesday, June 3. NDLEA recovered 106.57kg of skunk, 1kg of Loud, 800 grams of Colorado, and 302 grams of methamphetamine from their residence in Ikpoba Hill.
NDLEA Continues Drug Awareness Campaign in Schools and Communities
Beyond arrests, NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign across Nigeria. The agency reported recent school outreach programmes and community visits aimed at educating the public about the dangers of drug use.
Schools visited include Sir Usman Nagogo College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Katsina, Fountain of Knowledge International Academy in Ebonyi, and Prof. Eyo Ita Municipal Model Primary School in Calabar.
Other locations include Millennium High School, Egbeda in Lagos, and Community Secondary School, Ichida Anaocha in Anambra State.
Additionally, NDLEA Zone 13 Command visited the traditional ruler of Nembe Kingdom, Dr. Edmund Dakoru, in Bayelsa State as part of its community advocacy efforts.
