X (formerly Twitter) has started the phased rollout of its Original Content Rewards program, replacing the Creator Revenue Sharing model that had been in place since 2023.

The platform stopped accepting new enrollments into Creator Revenue Sharing since 7 August 2026 and retired the program entirely on 7 September.

Existing members were granted access to apply for the new program through Creator Studio from 8 September, provided they met updated eligibility requirements.

The new system pays creators based on “qualified impressions” generated by original content, rather than raw engagement metrics.

Qualified impressions are defined as unique views from X Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline feed, where at least 50 per cent of a post is visible.

Paid, promoted or artificially generated impressions are excluded.

Eligibility and Payouts

To qualify, creators must maintain an active X Premium subscription, hold at least 500 verified followers, and generate 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over the previous 90 days.

Payouts are issued every two weeks as long as the account and content continue to meet program requirements.

Original content is defined as material the creator has personally written, filmed, designed or produced, reflecting their own voice or expertise.

Commentary that meaningfully adds perspective to existing news is eligible.

Copied content, minimally modified material, aggregated posts and cross-platform reposts do not qualify.

Posts receiving a Community Note become ineligible for rewards, and misleading or false content may be excluded.

Content focused primarily on teaching others how to maximise payouts under the program is also excluded.

The rollout marks X’s latest attempt to curb engagement bait and recycled content while directing payouts toward genuine creators.
