Nigeria is set to host its first-ever International Qur’anic Recitation Competition, scheduled for August. The event is organized by the Centre for Islamic Studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The competition will begin in Jos, Plateau State, with the grand finale taking place in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The event will welcome contestants from about 20 countries, including Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, the UK, and the US.

Organising committee Chairman Gwani Sadiq Zamfara shared insights on the competition’s significance.

“The competition will kick off in Jos, Plateau State, with the finals taking place in Abuja,” he stated. “Its mission is to promote Islamic values and foster unity, affirming that the Holy Qur’an serves as the ultimate guide for Muslims striving for a meaningful life.”

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has endorsed the initiative, following the successful hosting of the 39th National Qur’anic Competition in 2024.

The upcoming event is expected to draw widespread attention, bringing together scholars, religious leaders, and reciters for a celebration of Qur’anic knowledge and devotion.
