FG Declares June 6 and 9 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Adha 2025

The Federal Government has declared Friday, 6th June, and Monday, 9th June, 2025, as public holidays. These dates mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The Ministry of Interior made the announcement in Abuja. The statement was issued on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

He congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and abroad.

“We wish all Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Adha,” the minister said.

Call for Sacrifice, Unity and National Progress

The minister urged Muslims to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith. He said these were shown by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).

“Use this period to pray for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” the minister advised.

He said Nigeria is undergoing reforms that aim to improve the lives of its citizens. He explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is aimed at rebuilding the country.

The minister also urged all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts.

“Let us work together to restore Nigeria’s glory as a great nation,” he added.

Eid-ul-Adha: A Time of Reflection and Giving

Eid-ul-Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

In Nigeria, the celebration involves prayers, the slaughtering of rams, and sharing meals with family, friends, and the needy.

Markets across the country are already witnessing a rise in ram prices. Traders in major cities like Lagos, Kano, and Abuja say the cost of livestock has gone up due to high demand and transport costs.

Prices range from ₦70,000 to over ₦500,000 depending on the size and location.

Security agencies have also been placed on alert to ensure peaceful celebrations across the country.
