On Sunday night, a MaxAir aircraft carrying 119 passengers and 6 crew members experienced a significant incident during its takeoff from Yola Airport in Adamawa. The Boeing 737, operating as flight NGL1649 with registration 5N-ADB, suffered the loss of six tires.

According to Bimbo Oladeji, the airline’s Director of Public and Consumer Protection, the aircraft was cleared for takeoff en route to Abuja.

During the takeoff roll, a loud bang was heard, later identified as the rear gear tires bursting. Initially, two tires blew out, and as the crew attempted to taxi off the runway, the remaining four tires also burst, immobilizing the aircraft.

Despite the alarming situation, there were no injuries reported. Oladeji assured, “Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A go-team, led by NSIB Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr., will visit the incident site tomorrow morning to conduct an investigation.

The prompt and professional response of the crew ensured the safety of all onboard, highlighting the importance of stringent safety protocols in aviation.
