The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic incident that left two students and a hotel staff member dead in Ikere-Ekiti.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael ordered a thorough probe after the deaths at Emirate Hotel on April 18, 2026.
Preliminary findings revealed that the victims were students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology.
They had gathered at the hotel for a post-convocation party.
The celebration reportedly continued into the early hours of the next day before an argument broke out between two yet-to-be-identified students.
The fight escalated, causing panic among other guests. In their attempt to flee, a stampede occurred, leading to the deaths of three people.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
CP Adegoroye expressed sympathy to the families and friends of the victims. “We extend our condolences and urge the public to remain calm as investigations continue,” he said.
Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu confirmed that the Command is working to unravel the full circumstances. “Those found culpable will be brought to justice,” he stated.
The police assured residents that the investigation will be thorough and transparent.
