The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 17th, and Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, gave the information via a statement signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, on Friday in Abuja.

The minister congratulated Muslims at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion.

Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to pray for the country’s unity, peace, prosperity, and stability during the period.

While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children,” the statement added.

Eid ul-Adha is an Islamic holiday that commemorates when Ibrahim (Abraham) had a dream that he believed was a message from Allah (God) to sacrifice his son Isma’il (Isaac) as an act of obedience to God.

In some countries, Muslims kill Rams and share with neighbors, friends, and the poor.

It usually takes place at the end of Hajj – the yearly Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
