Aisha Musa, a 19-year-old newly wedded wife, is in police custody for allegedly poisoning her husband in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area (LGA).
Spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident happened on August 12, 2026, at about 3:15 pm.
He said the suspect, a bride of about 40 days, allegedly introduced a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal.
“Subsequently, at about 7:40 pm on the same day, a distress call was received from an anonymous lady residing at Wunti Dada Area, Bauchi, reporting the incident to the Police. Operatives of ‘C’ Division Tafawa Balewa Estate mobilised to the scene,” Habib said.
He said victim was evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and is stable.
“The suspect who has been arrested voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting the offence,” he said.
Police said empty bottle suspected to contain poison and remnants of food were recovered as exhibits.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. Suspect will be charged to court after investigation.
Domestic poisoning cases fall under attempted murder and are investigated by SCID under the Bauchi State Police Command.
Police procedure requires medical report from hospital, exhibit analysis and confessional statement corroboration before charging to court.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Bauchi has in recent months reported similar domestic disputes linked to early marriage and family conflict.
