Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and member of the Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 presidential election, Chief Dele Momodu, has given conditions on which he can support the government of President Bola Tinubu.
He says the president has to apologize for the forgery of his academic records and move on.
Tinubu is embroiled in a forgery controversy relating to his academic records at the Chicago State University (CSU), and other related alleged crimes.
Momodu used to be a friend and political ally of Mr Tinubu but joined the opposition PDP in the run-up to the election. He was later drafted as Director of Strategic Communication to PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and has remained loyal to him (Atiku) – a northerner, inspite of repeated appeals to his ethnic and parochial sentiments.
According to Momodu, “Nobody can justify forgery, nobody! That’s why they are all keeping quiet now (Tinubu’s supporters)”.
Momodu, Publisher of a global event magazine, Ovation Magazine – published in London, advised Tinubu to “just apologize and move on”, adding, “It doesn’t mean people will accept that apology. At least start from somewhere; you are insulting us.
“I will defend a man who dares to apologize” – he added.
But Tinubu’s alleged forgery remains a subject of fierce litigation in a district court in the State of Illinois, United States, and at Nigeria’s Supreme Court – which is reviewing the eligibility of Tinubu to contest the 2023 election and if he indeed won the election.
Opposition parties provided what they consider irrefutable evidence to suggest he didn’t.
Mr Tinubu is not new to controversy. He is also facing multiple allegations of identity theft, illicit drug trade, corruption and concealed dual citizenship.
Notwithstanding all this, his political family mostly from the Southwest of Nigeria where he comes from, stands staunchly with him.
Nigerians await with trepidation court verdicts from Illinois and Nigeria’s supreme courts due soon.
