The event went well, but instead of hiring a bus to transport us, we had to walk. Upon our early arrival at The Lord Shepherd International School, we found that preparations were still ongoing. Chairs were being arranged, and the projector was being set up.
Though the hall was comfortably air-conditioned, we had to wait for a while before students from God’s Gift International School arrived. They arrived in a school bus, creating a brief hush in the air, in contrast to our trekking journey.
We waited for another half-hour before the host school’s students arrived. They seemed quite reserved, perhaps due to the presence of students from my all-boys’ school.
A man took the podium, acknowledged our early arrival, and led us in prayer. Following the prayer, two shy girls from God’s Gift led a praise and worship session. Then, members of the head table were introduced, including an Orthopaedic Hospital doctor, an architecture and engineering lecturer, and the CEO of Radio Nigeria. The Orthopaedic doctor spoke about healthy diets, using Biblical proverbs to support her points.
The lecturer emphasized the importance of reading for success, not just passing exams. His talk was engaging. The Radio Nigeria representative handed out pamphlets and shared her thoughts.
A man spoke briefly and invited those willing to accept Jesus into their lives to come forward. After the prayers, students were asked to provide their contact information. We were also asked to select two representatives for a quiz, in which my school secured second place, with God’s Gift taking the lead. We all enjoyed some refreshments, said a closing prayer, and were sent back to our respective schools.
