G100 Rebrands as Coalition for Democracy, Demands Voter Register Audit

A coalition of opposition parties seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 has rebranded as the Coalition for Democracy, dropping its former G100 identity.

The coalition also demanded an immediate forensic audit of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) voters’ register.

It insisted that all registered political parties must receive electronic copies of the preliminary register ahead of the 2027 polls.

The demands were contained in a statement signed by Salihu Lukman on behalf of the coalition parties after a meeting of its Central Leadership Committee in Abuja on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

Coalition Accuses APC of Tilting the Playing Field

The coalition accused the APC-led administration of undermining democratic institutions, restricting opposition activities and creating an electoral environment allegedly tilted in favour of the ruling party.

It warned that growing restrictions on opposition parties and the alleged misuse of security agencies were raising concerns about the credibility of the January 16, 2027 elections.

The group called on the Inspector-General of Police to guarantee equal protection for all lawful political activities under Section 83 of the Police Act 2020.

It also demanded the public release of investigation findings into reported attacks on opposition supporters in Oyo, Kaduna and Sokoto states.

According to the coalition, opposition supporters have been attacked in Kaduna, ambushed in Ibadan and assaulted in Sokoto and Cross River states within the last 90 days.

The group alleged that hotels booked for opposition delegates had cancelled reservations, campaign offices had been sealed, and opposition billboards had been removed in Edo State while APC billboards remained untouched.

“The APC is not just trying to win the election. It is trying to decide the conditions under which everybody else must contest it,” the coalition said.

“This is what happens when a ruling party begins to confuse its control of government with ownership of democracy. You cannot be a contestant and insist on writing the rules for your opponents.”

Opposition Leaders Intensify Unity Efforts

The rebranding comes amid intensified efforts by opposition leaders to build a united front capable of challenging the APC in 2027.

On October 29, leaders of opposition parties under the former G100 Coalition met with Catholic cleric Cardinal John Onaiyekan at his residence to discuss strategies for a common opposition platform.

The delegation included national chairmen and national secretaries of various political parties.

Onaiyekan reportedly welcomed the initiative, saying a strong opposition was essential to sustaining Nigeria’s democratic traditions.

He said Nigerians must have credible political alternatives through which they could freely determine their future and choose their leaders.

The Cardinal also stressed the importance of competent, honest and compassionate leadership in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

The emergence of the Coalition for Democracy signals another step in the opposition’s efforts to consolidate political forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
