The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun recruiting ad hoc personnel for the Osun State governorship election, scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026.
In a notice issued on Monday, June 29, INEC said it is accepting applications for five categories of election duty staff: Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers (POs), Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs), Registration Area Technical Support Staff (RATECHs), and Registration Area Centre Managers (RAC Managers).
“The Independent National Electoral Commission invites applications from suitable, qualified and interested candidates for engagement as Ad-hoc Staff for the conduct of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election,” the commission stated.
All applications must go through INEC’s dedicated INECPRES portal, which opened on Saturday, June 27, 2026, and closes automatically at midnight on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
The commission was explicit that late submissions would not be accepted, leaving prospective applicants roughly three weeks to complete the process.
Who Qualifies for Each Role and What INEC Expects
Eligibility varies sharply depending on the position. For Supervisory Presiding Officers, INEC said officers on Grade Levels 12 to 14 across the Federal Public Service and federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) qualify.
Priority will go to eligible personnel from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and National Population Commission (NPC).
Qualified INEC staff on Grade Levels 8 to 14 who are not already assigned to other election duties may also apply.
For Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers, the field is broader.
Serving corps members, ex-corps members who completed their NYSC service between 2024 and 2026, penultimate-year students at federal tertiary institutions, and permanent federal MDA staff on Grade Levels 7 to 10 holding OND or NCE qualifications are all eligible to apply.

Registration Area Centre Managers will be drawn from heads of schools or staff at institutions designated as Registration Area Centres.
Meanwhile, Registration Area Technical Support Staff will be selected from ICT personnel already within INEC’s ranks who are not deployed elsewhere for the election.
INEC was firm on one condition that applies across every category: political neutrality. “Applicants must not be a member of any Political Party,” the commission stated, adding further that “applicants must not have demonstrated or expressed support for any candidate or party.”
The Osun governorship election will determine who leads the state for the next term, with the commission’s preparations now well underway.
Interested applicants are advised to complete registration well ahead of the July 18 deadline to avoid being shut out of the process entirely.
