The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has dethroned six chiefs for attending a Labour Party campaign event without his approval.
The event, held in Apapa, marked the flag-off of the Labour Party’s campaign ahead of the Lagos State local government elections.
At a palace meeting on Monday, the Oba said the affected chiefs not only defied palace protocol but also misrepresented his authority at the event.
“They went there without my consent,” Oba Oyegbemi declared. “And worse, they impersonated me in the public eye.”
The monarch described their action as a serious breach of traditional order.
List of Dethroned Chiefs and Offences
Those removed from their titles include Chief Taiwo Hassan, Bale of Oke Ira, and Chief Saliu Biliamin, Bale of Alafia Dodoro.
Chief Lateef Ojora, Bale of Alaba Oro, and Chief Idris Ojora, Bale of Abule Kere, were also removed.
Others affected were Chief Sule Balogun, Balogun of Abule Kere, and Chief Hakeem Oseni, Bale of Mosafejo Amukoko.
In an official statement released by the palace, Oba Oyegbemi said the decision was to “maintain order and coherence within his leadership structure.”
The palace stressed that the act of attending a political rally without informing the monarch disrupts traditional balance and unity.
“They did not only attend without permission, they carried themselves as palace representatives, which they were not,” the statement noted.
The Oba has reportedly warned other chiefs under his authority to steer clear of political engagement without clearance from the throne.
