Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said he will not challenge the outcome of the party’s May 25, 2026 primary.
The decision comes despite his concerns about alleged irregularities during the exercise.
In a statement released Monday in Abuja, Hayatu-Deen said his campaign reflected the hopes of what he called Nigeria’s “silent majority.”
He explained that while he was disappointed, unity within the opposition must take priority.
“I have decided… that I will not challenge the outcome in court.”

Hayatu-Deen had earlier questioned the conduct of the primary, citing reports of irregularities.

Despite his concerns, Hayatu-Deen said his decision was guided by the need to strengthen opposition politics ahead of 2027.
He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and engaged in the political process.
“Please do not stop believing. Do not surrender your hope to cynicism.”
He described his campaign as a movement driven by citizens seeking fairness, competence, and accountable leadership.
“What I will carry forward… is not bitterness, but gratitude.”
He also thanked supporters across the country, including young people, professionals, and grassroots organisers.
The development reflects ongoing debates about internal democracy within political parties as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections.
Hayatu-Deen said his focus remains on contributing to a better political system rather than pursuing legal action.
