Actor Emeka Ike Threatens Lawsuit Over INEC Data Leak

Actor and politician Emeka Ike has threatened legal action against Lere Olayinka, an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, over the alleged release of his voter data.

The dispute follows posts shared on X on May 30, 2026, showing details said to be pulled from an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

The images reportedly included Ike’s voter ID number, registration centre, profile photo, and application history.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Ike described the incident as a serious breach of privacy.

“It’s quite shocking, extreme and it is the height of political rascality.”

He said access to such information by public officials reflects deeper concerns about data security and accountability.

“It tells you a lot… how much impunity we have… and that’s quite deplorable.”

Legal Threat Over Data Exposure

Ike said he is preparing to challenge the alleged breach in court, insisting his personal data should not be publicly shared.

“Actions are ready. I’m ready to take him on.”

“He has no right to exploit my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did.”

He also warned that such conduct could affect all citizens if not addressed.

“He is telling every Nigerian that whoever you are, I can pull your information.”

The controversy has drawn attention to how sensitive electoral data is accessed and used.

INEC maintains that voter information is protected and only accessible under strict conditions.

Background And Political Context

Ike contested the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the Federal Capital Territory during the last election.

He ran under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) but did not win the seat.

Explaining his decision to run in Abuja, he said the move followed appeals from residents.

“I actually wanted to run in my state but… people came to me… we need you in Abuja.”

He added that local concerns influenced his decision to shift focus.

“A municipal area needs to be properly guarded and looked into.”
