Ex-SGF Lawal Says Tinubu Would Win If Elections Are Rigged

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 election if vote manipulation determines the outcome.

Lawal made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“If the parameter for winning elections in Nigeria is rigging, nobody can face Bola Tinubu.”

“Landslide. He’ll rig everybody.”

His comments come as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Criticism Of Atiku And Political Position

Lawal also dismissed the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“I know Atiku… his presidency will be worse than Bola Tinubu’s.”

He said he is not backing any candidate at the moment, including Peter Obi.

“I am supporting nobody. I don’t want to be part of anything for now.”

Lawal recently resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing concerns over its presidential primary.

He alleged that the process was manipulated in favour of Atiku.

“Results were just written or rewritten to favour him and his coven.”

However, the ADC leadership insists the primary was free and fair.

Mixed Reactions And Political Context

Publisher Dele Momodu rejected Lawal’s claims, questioning the lack of evidence.

“Why didn’t he come with documents?”

He also defended Atiku’s record and dismissed suggestions that his age could affect his candidacy.

“As long as God has given you life, age should not be a problem.”

The controversy adds to growing debate over internal party democracy and election credibility in Nigeria.

Tinubu, who won the 2023 election with 8.79 million votes, is expected to seek re-election in 2027.

The contest is shaping up as a three-way race involving Tinubu, Atiku, and Peter Obi.
