Fani-Kayode Dismisses Obi–Kwankwaso 2027 Alliance

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed the possibility of a joint presidential ticket between Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a commentary titled “The Irretrievable Breakdown of Marriage Between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi,” Fani-Kayode argued that Kwankwaso would never accept a subordinate role under Obi.

“I do not see how a seasoned and highly respected Northern politician like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who has served as governor and minister and has spent decades in politics, can agree to be a running mate to Peter Obi,” he wrote.

Fani-Kayode alleged that disagreements among Atiku Abubakar, Obi, and Kwankwaso supporters were already weakening opposition coalition efforts against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said ideological, religious, and regional differences between Obi and Kwankwaso made a joint ticket politically difficult. He also pointed to Kwankwaso’s past remarks distancing himself from such suggestions.

The former minister criticized Obi’s political style, alleging a pattern of repeated defection to another party whenever challenges arose.

He cited remarks from Obi’s former running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed and allies Kenneth Okonkwo and Babachir Lawal, who have questioned Obi’s approach.

Fani-Kayode strongly defended Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as resilient and strategically patient. He argued that opposition figures lacked unity and would fail to unseat the president in 2027.

He concluded by urging Atiku and Obi to abandon what he described as an unrealistic pursuit of power. “Neither politician will return to national leadership,” he insisted.
