Rabiu Kwankwaso Shuts Down Rumours Of His Defection From PDP

Rumors that former defense minister and presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is defecting to another party has been shut down.

In a tweet just released from his official handle, Kwankwaso debunked the rumor as “fake news” and “lies” and insisted that “not now and certainly not any time in the future” is he contemplating leaving the party.

Rabiu Kwankwaso is a two-term governor of Kano State under the platform of PDP before he briefly defected to APC in 2015 and returned in 2018, offering apologies to the party and ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, whom his defection helped push out of power in 2015.

Kwankwaso is the towering political giant behind the Kwankwasiya Movement, a cult-like political group with hundreds of thousands of fanatical supporters strongest in the northwest and northeast regions of Nigeria. This support base is seen as critical to the opposition Atiku Abubakar splitting up President Buhari’s electoral hold on the northwestern politics.

The rumors of his defection sent unsettling shockwaves throughout the political landscape last weekend until his clarification today Monday 17 December.
