The 41-year-old superstar passed Robert Parish to take the top spot. Parish held the record of 1,611 games for nearly 30 years.
The victory was a thriller that came down to the final second. Orlando led 104-102 with just three seconds remaining in the match.
Luke Kennard hit a deep three-pointer with only 0.6 seconds left to win. This result extends the winning streak for the Lakers to nine games.
According to a report by NBA.com, the Lakers now hold third place in the Western Conference. Their current season record stands at 46-25.
