The Coalition of Arewa Youths for Peace and Security has condemned remarks made by an individual who called for the resignation of Defense Minister General Christopher Musa (rtd).

The group described the comments as false, reckless, and not representative of Northern youths.

In a statement signed by President Dr. Mohamed Jallo and Secretary Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim, the coalition distanced itself from the presenter.

It said he neither speaks for the coalition nor represents responsible Northern youths committed to peace and national security.

The group alleged that the remarks were politically motivated and intended to undermine Nigeria’s security leadership.

“The person making such statements clearly does not understand the complexity of the security challenges confronting our nation,” the statement read.

Defence Minister’s Record Defended

The coalition rejected the claim that General Musa is a “sleeping minister,” describing it as a gross misrepresentation.

It noted that Musa’s decades of military service and leadership as Chief of Defence Staff speak for themselves.

Under his command, the Armed Forces intensified joint operations, reclaimed territories from terrorists, and weakened criminal networks across the North-East and North-West.

Since becoming Defence Minister, Musa has focused on modernising defence capabilities, improving troop welfare, and strengthening civil-military relations.

The coalition added that defeating terrorism requires coordinated national effort, patience, and responsible public discourse.

“Reckless accusations and emotional rhetoric only embolden enemies of the state and weaken national morale,” it said.

The group urged Nigerians to disregard the presenter’s remarks, insisting he does not represent the voice of Northern youths.

It reaffirmed confidence in General Musa’s leadership and called on citizens to support the Armed Forces in restoring peace and stability nationwide.

Minister Calls Service Chiefs to Emergency Meeting

Meanwhile, Mr Musa has summoned all Service Chiefs to an urgent meeting at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja following recent attacks on military bases in the North East.

Those present include Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abass, and representatives of the National Intelligence Agency.

Reports earlier confirmed that three Commanding Officers at the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel were killed in Borno by terrorists. Scores of soldiers also lost their lives, while hundreds of civilians were abducted.

Speaking before the meeting went behind closed doors, Musa said the military would review strategies to confront terrorists despite recent casualties.

He assured Nigerians, “Members of the Armed Forces are working tirelessly to ensure that Nigeria is safe and secure.”

The minister acknowledged losses but insisted terrorists and bandits had suffered heavier defeats.

“We are taking out more of their commanders and destroying their assets, and we will continue to do that,” he added.

Musa urged citizens to support the Armed Forces, stressing that tackling insecurity requires collective effort.

He also warned against false information on social media, noting that misinformation could undermine security operations and affect troop morale.
