The number of fatalities from recent attacks in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has climbed to 52, local authorities confirmed on Friday. Search efforts continue as security forces work to locate missing persons.

The Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, Farmasum Fuddang, revealed that 31 victims were given a mass burial on Thursday.

“We are still searching for missing persons, particularly in Hurti and Mbar villages,” he told reporters.

Another five children were reportedly burnt beyond recognition in Hurti village. Other casualties include 11 people in Ruwi, four in Manguna, and one in Daffo village, painting a grim picture of the devastation.

Government Deploys Security Forces

The Plateau State Government condemned the violence, describing it as a setback to peace efforts in the region. In a statement on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, reassured citizens that security agencies were actively working to restore order.

“Security forces have been deployed, and efforts are ongoing to bring normalcy back to the affected areas,” Ramnap stated.

Authorities confirmed that several arrests have been made, and investigations are underway to hold perpetrators accountable. Officials urged residents to remain calm and avoid retaliation.

“Strategic measures have been set up to improve intelligence gathering and surveillance, ensuring rapid response from security forces,” Ramnap added.

Calls for Peace Amid Growing Tensions

Local leaders, including religious and community elders, have been encouraged to promote dialogue and peace within affected communities.

The government reiterated its commitment to justice, ensuring those responsible for the attacks face legal consequences.

Residents have also been advised to support security agencies by reporting incidents through official channels. Efforts continue to assist displaced victims and provide relief in affected areas.
