Nollywood in Mourning: Two Film Crew Members Found Dead on Set in Lekki

Tragedy struck Nigeria’s film community this week after two production crew members were found dead inside a vehicle at a movie filming location in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, prompting a full police investigation and shock across Nollywood

The bodies were discovered on the evening of Saturday, February 7, 2026, inside a parked Nissan SUV at a location where a movie production was underway. The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has confirmed it has begun a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deceased have been identified as Godstime Imeh, a lighting director and CEO of GeeTee Light, and Walter Odediran, a creative video director widely known as Director Carrinqton in industry circles. Both men were respected members of the film crew and had been on site in the morning preparing lighting equipment for the day’s shoot before the tragic discovery.

According to available reports, the crew members had completed their initial setup work and were resting inside the vehicle with the air conditioning running while awaiting further instructions when they were later found unresponsive. A fellow crew member had reportedly delivered breakfast earlier that morning, after which the pair were seen reclining inside the car.

At the time of reporting, no official cause of death has been released, but law enforcement sources have indicated that toxicology tests and autopsies will be carried out to determine whether foul play, accidental exposure to fumes, heat exhaustion, or health issues were involved. The SCID’s involvement underscores the seriousness of the case and the need for a thorough investigation.

The tragic incident has prompted an outpouring of condolences from Nollywood practitioners, filmmakers, and fans across social media, with many urging safer working conditions and more stringent on-set health protocols. Film sets in Nigeria have often faced scrutiny over safety practices due to informal working environments and tight production schedules, and this incident has further amplified those concerns.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about the case to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and the Nollywood community continues to rally around the families of the deceased as details emerge.
