Captive of Oyo Abduction Beheaded, as Senate Vows State Police

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, visited Oyo State over the weekend following the May 15 terrorist attack and abduction in Oriire Local Government Area.

He expressed condolences to families of victims and condemned the assault as “cruel and unacceptable.” He assured residents that no effort would be spared in restoring normalcy.

During his visit, Disu met with CP Abimbola Olugbenga and other stakeholders, receiving briefings on rescue efforts and deployments. He said: “The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of schools, communities, and all citizens across the country.”

The IGP confirmed that coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments were underway to secure the safe return of abducted victims.

Meanwhile, Amotekun Corps Commandant Col. Olayanju Olayinka (retd) disclosed that operatives, hunters, and vigilantes were combing forests and neighbouring communities. “Our personnel are already combing the forests and suspected hideouts,” he said.

Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade added: “The police command has mobilised all necessary resources to rescue the abducted pupils and arrest the criminals behind the incident.”

Government And Senate Response

Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said: “The state government is deeply concerned about the incident, and every possible step is being taken to ensure the children are rescued safely.”

The Senate also condemned the abduction of 87 students and teachers in Borno and Oyo within 24 hours. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described it as “a tragic national concern that negates our national development indices.”

He pledged that the National Assembly would fast-track legislation to establish state police and strengthen school safety. “We will perfect all outstanding legislative initiatives to decisively address security challenges,” he said.

Meanwhile, Michael Oyedokun, one of the kidnapped teachers has been beheaded by his abductors. A disturbing video released on May 17, showed the execution.

Late Oyedokun was one of the teachers abducted alongside the principal, other teachers, and several students.

The video has thrown the community into mourning.

Police confirmed that two people, including another teacher and an Okada rider, were killed during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire.
