El‑Rufai Joins ADC, Vows to Dislodge APC in Kaduna by 2027

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as the beginning of a coordinated political effort to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 elections.

El‑Rufai completed his registration Thursday at the ADC office in Unguwar Sarki, Kaduna North, where he was received by senior party officials including ADC Vice Chairman (North‑West) Jafaru Sani and National Membership Secretary Senator Sadiq Yar’adua.

After receiving his membership card, El‑Rufai declared: “I am now a bona fide member of the African Democratic Congress. This is my political home, and it is on this platform that we will rescue Kaduna State from incompetent leadership.”

Coalition Strategy and Party Integration

Party officials revealed that El‑Rufai was issued membership number 000002, while 000001 was allocated to the coalition’s Vice National Chairman (North‑West), symbolizing the consolidation of the new coalition within the ADC.

El‑Rufai, who briefly joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in March 2025 after leaving the APC, said that move was an early step toward forming a broad opposition alliance.

He accused the SDP of allowing “government‑backed interference” that compromised negotiations. “The SDP refused to open up to the coalition leadership because the government bribed and compromised some of its leaders,” he alleged.

He explained that once it became clear the SDP platform was no longer workable, coalition leaders opened talks with the ADC and reached an agreement on July 2 to adopt the party for the 2027 race. Pending local elections and by‑elections delayed the formal declaration until now.

Mobilization and Criticism of APC

Senator Yar’adua supervised the registration, which insiders described as part of a plan to integrate coalition leaders into the ADC and harmonize structures across the North‑West.

Using the occasion to mobilize supporters, El‑Rufai urged residents to register with the ADC ahead of 2027, insisting Kaduna must “correct the mistake” of electing the current APC administration.

“By the grace of God, we will repeat what we did in 2015, when we removed the incompetent and corrupt PDP administration,” he said.

He accused the APC‑led state government of betraying public trust and failing to deliver on campaign promises. “We helped bring them into office, so we have a duty to help send them back home before they end up in prison,” he added.

El‑Rufai concluded by pledging that the ADC‑led coalition would present “a credible alternative capable of restoring the glory of Kaduna State.”
