Nigeria’s world-record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, delivered a commanding performance at the 2025 Nigerian Athletics Championships in Lagos.
Racing at Yaba College of Technology, she stormed to victory in 12.57 seconds to claim her fifth consecutive national title in the event.
Amusan pulled ahead early and maintained her lead throughout, finishing well ahead of runner‑up Adaobi Tabugbo, who clocked 13.03 seconds, while Faith Osamuyi followed in third with 13.36.
Her victory reinforces her dominance on home soil and builds momentum as she prepares for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
Rising Stars and Championship Highlights
Earlier in the national trials, she also competed in flat sprints, proving her versatility and readiness for multiple events. She had recently clocked a season’s best of 11.18 seconds in Kingston, Jamaica, in the 100m flat.
Meanwhile, emerging sprinter Chioma Cynthia Nweke delivered a surprise win in the women’s 100m final, posting 11.27 seconds to take gold and continue an impressive rise.
Nweke, fresh off her victory at the African U20 Championships in Abeokuta, beat Olayinka Olajide (11.39s) and Iyanuoluwa Bada (11.45s) to claim the title.
