Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, won silver in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday.
She clocked 12.29 seconds, finishing just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji. The Swiss star stormed to a shock gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds.
American Grace Stark grabbed bronze in 12.34 seconds, while Olympic champion Masai Russell finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.
Amusan remains the world record holder after her 12.12-second run in Eugene 2022, a mark that shook the world of athletics. That victory gave her Nigeria’s first-ever world title in track and field.

“It’s always an honour to line up against the best in the world,” Amusan said after the race. “I gave it my all tonight, but I will keep pushing.”
Her duel with Kambundji brought Tokyo’s stadium alive. Fans erupted as the Swiss hurdler surged ahead in the last strides to claim gold, leaving Amusan just short of defending her crown.
This result adds to Amusan’s growing medal collection, even as Nigeria looks ahead to the Paris 2028 Olympics with hopes of gold.
