Morocco’s women’s national team have sealed their place in the final of the wafcon/">2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a tense penalty shootout victory over Ghana in Rabat.

After the semi-final ended 1–1 after extra time, the host nation triumphed 4–2 on penalties, booking a historic showdown against Nigeria’s Super Falcons.

Ghana started strong, taking the lead in the 26th minute through Stella Nyamekye, who pounced on a defensive lapse during a set-piece. But Morocco rallied in the second half, with Sakina Ouzraoui scoring the equaliser in the 55th minute after a well-constructed attack on the right flank.

The rest of the match remained fiercely contested, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock during extra time. The match took an emotional turn when Moroccan star Fatima Tagnaout was stretchered off due to injury, leaving fans anxious ahead of the penalty decider.

In the shootout, Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi emerged the hero—saving one of Ghana’s attempts while the West Africans missed another.

Morocco converted all four of their penalties, sending the home crowd into celebration and securing their second consecutive WAFCON final appearance.

The result sets up a highly anticipated final against Nigeria, who earlier defeated South Africa 2–1 in the other semi-final. The final is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
