Wolves Induct Diogo Jota Into Hall of Fame After Tragic Death

Wolverhampton Wanderers have inducted Diogo Jota posthumously into their Hall of Fame. The club honoured the late Portuguese forward for his outstanding contributions and the deep impact of his passing.

Jota died in a car crash in Zamora, Spain, on July 3, 2025, alongside his younger brother André Silva. He was 28. The accident occurred while they were en route to Santander to catch a ferry to England for Liverpool’s pre-season.

Jota joined Wolves from Atlético Madrid in 2017, initially on loan. He scored 44 goals in 131 matches and helped the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

He also played a key role in securing a Europa League spot with a seventh-place finish in 2019.

Tributes Across Football

Wolves Director of Football Administration, Matt Wild, said: “Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves.”

The Hall of Fame committee, led by club legend John Richards, made the decision unanimously.

“We wanted to make this tribute of our own as soon as we could,” Richards said. “We remember what a wonderful player Diogo was during that unforgettable promotion season under Nuno.”

Liverpool, where Jota scored 65 goals and won the Premier League in 2025, retired his No. 20 shirt in his honour.

A Hall of Fame dinner is being planned, and tributes will be held during Wolves’ upcoming matches against Celta Vigo and Manchester City.

Jota had married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, just eleven days before the accident. They shared three children.

What else should Wolves do for late Diogo Jota, like name a stand or training facility after him?
