Diogo Jota’s Widow Set to Inherit £35million After Tragic Crash

The sudden death of Portuguese football star Diogo Jota has left the football world in shock—and his young family with a financial legacy estimated at £35 million.

Jota, 28, died alongside his brother André in a car crash in Spain last week. Spanish police said the crash was likely caused by excessive speed, though investigations are ongoing.

The Liverpool forward leaves behind his wife Rute and their three children: four-year-old Dinis, two-year-old Duarte, and baby daughter Mafalda, born just eight months ago.

Jota’s career began with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018, where he earned £38,000 weekly. In two years, he took home nearly £4 million.

In 2020, he joined Liverpool on a four-year deal worth £83,000 per week. Over the next two years, he earned about £8.6 million. His growing influence on the pitch led Liverpool to extend his contract in 2022 to five years at £140,000 per week.

This new deal brought him an additional £21.8 million before his untimely death. Had he lived, he was expected to receive another £14.5 million before the contract ended.

Portuguese media report that Liverpool plans to honour the remainder of the contract, ensuring Jota’s family receives the pending wages.

Adding endorsements and business ventures, the family’s total inheritance could reach £35 million.

Football Star, Entrepreneur, and Family Man

Jota wasn’t just a footballer. He was a savvy entrepreneur.

In 2023, he founded an image rights company, Minute J Ltd, through which some of his earnings were channelled. The firm made £186,754 in its first year but owed nearly £50,000 in taxes.

He also secured lucrative deals with Nike and EA Sports, bringing in an estimated £3.3 million annually. Additionally, he launched Luna Galaxy, his Esports team, combining his love for football with digital competition.

The fairy tale wedding of Jota and Rute only days before Jota’s death

According to reports, Jota invested in a £2.1 million five-bedroom home in Blundellsands, a serene, upmarket suburb of north Liverpool.

His car collection, valued over £1 million, included a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Ferrari 488, and a Mercedes G63 AMG.

“He left behind a financial legacy few soccer players achieve so young,” wrote The Richest. “His business smarts matched his on-field vision. He left behind a blueprint for how athletes can build wealth and legacy beyond the pitch.”

Jota married Rute, his teenage sweetheart, just 13 days before his tragic death.
