Carlos Alcaraz Beats Jannik Sinner in French Open Epic After Saving 3 Match Points

Carlos Alcaraz made a stunning comeback to defeat Jannik Sinner in the 2025 French Open final on Sunday. He fought back from two sets down, saving three championship points before winning in five intense sets.

The match ended 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2) in Alcaraz’s favour. It lasted five hours and 29 minutes — the longest final in Roland Garros history.

Alcaraz, 22, now holds five Grand Slam titles and remains unbeaten in all his major finals. This victory snapped Sinner’s 20-match Grand Slam winning streak.

Alcaraz Joins the Ranks of Tennis Legends

With this win, Alcaraz becomes the third youngest man to win five Grand Slam titles. Only tennis greats Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal achieved the feat earlier.

It was also Alcaraz’s first-ever comeback from two sets down in a Grand Slam. He said after the match, “I believed in myself, even when everything looked lost.”

This was the first Grand Slam final between two men born in the 2000s. The clash was intense, with both players showcasing world-class talent, athleticism, and mental strength.

Sinner came into the final as world number one and was aiming for a third consecutive Grand Slam after his US Open and Australian Open wins.

He had defeated Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and looked strong early in the match. But Alcaraz grew sharper as the match progressed.

“Carlos never gave up. He fought until the end,” Sinner admitted. “It’s hard to take, but I’ll learn from it.”

Fans watching from across the globe praised both players for their thrilling display. The French crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier erupted with cheers after the final point.

Rising Rivalry and What’s Next

This was Alcaraz’s fifth win over Sinner in their last five meetings. Their rivalry is now one of the most talked-about in men’s tennis. Alcaraz leads their head-to-head 8-5.

The match also marked Sinner’s return to Grand Slam action after a short ban for a doping violation. Many had tipped him as the favourite for the French title.

Alcaraz is expected to become world number one again if he continues his form through Wimbledon and the US Open. His success has drawn comparisons to Nadal’s dominance on clay.
