Carlos Alcaraz showed why many call him the future of tennis. On Tuesday night, the Spaniard brushed aside Jiri Lehecka in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
He won 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 without facing a single break point. His serve was sharp, his strokes confident, his energy relentless. The crowd roared as he produced 28 winners in just under two hours.
One dazzling moment came in the second set. Alcaraz executed a delicate backhand drop volley that drew gasps, then cheers, from New York fans.
Lehecka could only admire the level of play. “I faced the Grand Slam version of Carlos,” he admitted after the match.
Alcaraz himself agreed it was one of his best outings. “It was almost perfect,” he said. “I feel great and hungry going into the next round.”
Record-breaking Run
The 22-year-old has not dropped a set in this year’s US Open. That makes him the youngest player since Rafael Nadal in 2008 to reach a Grand Slam semifinal unbeaten.
He is also the youngest since 1978 to reach the last four on all three surfaces — clay, grass, and hard — across multiple seasons. His record continues to place him in rare company.
Alcaraz’s next challenge is Novak Djokovic. The Serbian has 24 Grand Slam titles, and a semifinal between the two promises fireworks.
