Russia and Ukraine met in Istanbul on Monday for peace negotiations, discussing a temporary 2-3 day ceasefire and the exchange of 6,000 fallen soldiers from each side.
Ukraine proposed a new round of talks before the end of June, suggesting a meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
“We propose to the Russian side to hold a meeting by the end of this month, from the 20th to 30th of June,” said Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
Russia rejected an unconditional ceasefire, agreeing only to a short-term truce.
“The Russian side continued to reject the motion of an unconditional ceasefire,” said Kyiv negotiator Sergiy Kyslytsya.
Both sides agreed to exchange prisoners of war who are severely wounded and those aged 18 to 25.
“We agreed to exchange all-for-all seriously wounded and seriously sick prisoners of war. The second category is young soldiers, who are from 18 to 25 years old – all-for-all,” Umerov stated.
Additionally, 6,000 bodies of fallen soldiers from each side will be returned.
“Also, we agreed to return 6,000 to 6,000 bodies of fallen soldiers,” Umerov confirmed.
