The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept all the Council seats in the Local Government Area election conducted on Saturday in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC), Aliyu Muhammad-Mera, declared in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, on Sunday that APC won all 21 Chairmanship seats and 225 Ward Councillors.
Muhammad-Mera also said that 17 political parties participated in the polls, including the APC, NNPP, LP, AAC, Boot Party, AP, and SDP.
He announced that the commission had ratified and adopted the chairmanship results for the LGAs as announced by the various councils’ Returning Officers and the Councillorship results as announced at the electoral wards.
Muhammad-Mera said he was pleased with the peaceful conduct of the exercise and praised security agencies and all other stakeholders for their invaluable support.
However, the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, boycotted the elections, alleging the Chairman and the Commissioners of KESIEC are card-carrying members of the APC.
The said it could not trust the impartiality of the Commission to conduct the election.
