In His New Year’s Message, Atiku Abubakar Ask Nigerians to Hold Leaders Accountable in 2025

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says that Nigerians should hold their political leaders accountable in 2025. In a New Year message he posted on X, he called for heightened vigilance and public awareness to protect democracy and promote national progress.

Atiku, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, stressed the need for citizens to monitor government actions.

He warned against unchecked authority, stating, “The vigilance of the citizenry is paramount in ensuring that those in leadership never abuse the power entrusted to them.” He emphasized the importance of resisting any government overreach that could undermine rights and democracy.

Atiku described the previous year 2024 as “sobering” and the new year as a “momentous era” for reshaping national dialogue and accountability.

Reflecting on the hardships of the past year, Atiku acknowledged 2024 as a wake-up call for greater accountability. He noted that those challenges had strengthened Nigerians’ resilience and faith.

The former VP called for national unity, urging Nigerians to reject attempts to divide the country along religious or ethnic lines. He stated, “We must hold firm to the principles that unite us.”

Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for economic recovery in 2025. He hoped for a revitalized economy that would ease people’s burdens. “It is my fervent prayer that 2025 will sweep away the years of national hardships and bring a fresh dawn,” he said.

He also remembered those who were most vulnerable to the hardships brought on by the government reforms. “Their struggles remind us of the urgent work that lies ahead,” he remarked.

Atiku concluded with a call for unity and action, wishing Nigerians a prosperous New Year. “Together, let us build a safer, stronger, and more unified nation,” he said.
