The Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Osborn Nweze Umahi, has asked the council’s 11 wards to each submit five priority projects for his administration’s action plan.
Umahi made the request at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at Osborn Hotel. He directed ward councillors to consult residents in their communities before submitting the proposals
If every ward submits the maximum number, the council could receive up to 55 project proposals. Umahi’s office has not yet said which of these will be approved or funded, and it did not give a timeline for when a final list will be published.
He described the ward-based approach as part of his administration’s wider style of governance, which he said is built around direct community engagement rather than top-down planning.
“People are very happy & I have introduced a new style of leadership,” Umahi said.
According to the chairman, the approach lets residents themselves flag the projects they consider most urgent, rather than having priorities set solely from the council headquarters.
Ward councillors, elected local representatives who sit on the council, are expected to gather this input directly from their communities.

The council says it will review submissions from all 11 wards before deciding which projects move into the action plan.
Details on funding availability, selection criteria and implementation timelines were not given in the statement issued after the meeting.
Ohaozara is one of Ebonyi State’s local government areas, and its council oversees basic infrastructure, primary healthcare and community development projects within its wards, working alongside the state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Residents in the area will now wait to see how many of their ward’s proposals make the final list, and how soon work on approved projects can begin.
