First Lady Gets Chieftaincy Title, Rallies Imo Women to Vote Tinubu

First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu has appealed to voters in the South-East to support her husband, President Bola Tinubu, for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, while receiving a traditional chieftaincy title from Imo State monarchs during the same visit.

Speaking at a women’s empowerment event at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri, Mrs Tinubu said she wants President Tinubu re-elected because she hopes to see a prosperous Nigeria in her old age.

“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she told the gathering, adding that she wanted to “enjoy Nigeria at old age.”

The event, held under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women Economic Empowerment Programme in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), targets 18,500 women nationwide.

500 women come from each of the five South-East states, receiving items including freezers, gas cookers, generators and industrial grinding machines.

Governor Hope Uzodimma sponsored an additional 2,000 items for Imo State, bringing the state’s beneficiaries to 2,500, prompting Mrs Tinubu to add a ₦100,000 cash grant for each beneficiary present.

“Because of what the Governor has done, I have decided to add ₦100,000 to each of the beneficiaries,” she said, commending Uzodimma directly: “I don’t flatter. He has brought the world to Imo. Imo is bubbling.”

Uzodimma Reaffirms Imo’s Support For Tinubu In 2027

Speaking at the event, Governor Uzodimma reiterated that Imo State would remain aligned with President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the state had benefited from the administration’s policies and expressing confidence that Imo people would continue to support the President.

He described the empowerment items as “startup gifts and economic lifelines” for poor and vulnerable women, adding: “When you empower a woman, you have empowered an entire household, improved livelihoods and strengthened small businesses.”

Imo State First Lady, Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, who serves as the RHI State coordinator, said the 2,500 items would be distributed across the state’s three senatorial zones — Okigwe, Orlu and Owerri.

Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said President Tinubu had placed women at the centre of his Renewed Hope Agenda, linking the empowerment drive to the administration’s declaration of 2026 as the Year of Family and Social Development.

First Lady Honoured With “Oso Di Eme” Title By Imo Monarchs

Earlier in the day, Mrs Tinubu was conferred with the traditional chieftaincy title of “Oso Di Eme” — meaning a supportive wife — at the Eze Imo Palace in Owerri, by Imo State monarchs led by the Chairman of Owerri Zone Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Frederick Nwachukwu, standing in for the Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The ceremony was witnessed by ranking traditional rulers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.

Describing the conferment as “a humbling day,” the First Lady thanked the traditional rulers and people of the Southeast for the honour.

She conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for the region’s support during the removal of fuel subsidy and appealed for continued backing for the administration ahead of the 2027 general election.

Nigeria is headed for a general election on January 16, 2027.
