Osun First Lady Explains Why She Is Proud of the ‘Dancing Governor’

Osun State First Lady Ngozi Adeleke has said she is proud of her husband, Governor Ademola Adeleke, despite his widely known reputation as Nigeria’s “dancing governor”.

Speaking in an interview with a national newspaper, Ngozi said the nickname reflects a longstanding part of the governor’s personality rather than a performance he adopted for politics.

The First Lady said she met Ademola Adeleke while he was studying in the United States, long before he became involved in politics.

“I feel good. My husband did not start dancing today; I got to meet him when he schooled in the US. They called him Jackson because of his dancing skills,” she said.

Ngozi said she never considered her husband’s dancing embarrassing.

She also recalled their traditional wedding ceremony as one of the clearest examples of his passion for dance.

A Wedding Filled with Music

According to Ngozi, Adeleke danced from one morning until the following day during their traditional marriage ceremony.

She said the governor invited veteran musician Shina Peters to perform, turning the celebration into a large carnival.

“I don’t think my village people have ever seen that type of wedding up till today. They still talk about it,” she said.

Ngozi also clarified that she did not marry a politician.

She said Ademola Adeleke was not directly involved in politics when they met, as his elder brother was the family member active in the political space at the time.

The First Lady described her husband as someone who rarely falls into a bad mood.

She said that when he is not dancing, he is either singing or praising God.

Adeleke was also a choir member and could play the drums and sing, according to his wife.

Ngozi said she was the only person in their household who could not dance.

“With him, no dull moment,” she said.

Davido’s Campaign Role

The governor’s public image also featured prominently in the 2026 Osun State governorship election campaign.

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, served as Head of Youth Mobilisation for his uncle’s campaign council, according to the draft.

The singer reportedly inaugurated a youth committee and local coordinators under the Imole Youth Mobilisation platform to help build support across the state.

Davido also used his social-media platforms to promote awareness of the election and respond to criticism directed at the governor.

The draft says he had more than 31 million Instagram followers, although that figure should be confirmed because social-media totals change frequently.

The singer reportedly suspended promotion of his album during the campaign to focus on supporting Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Political analyst Isaac Daniels said politicians would welcome an influential public figure such as Davido as part of their campaign team.

“Davido has done well for Osun State Government as a proud indigene and has played a good role in helping his uncle’s re-election,” Daniels said.

He added that the governor should use his next term to improve governance and respond to allegations made by opposition groups.

Davido is also reportedly planning a “Thank You” concert in Osun State to appreciate voters.
