Fire broke out on Friday morning at the Bono Tank Farm inside the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos, sending residents and workers fleeing.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene as smoke and panic spread through the tank farm cluster, which sits in one of Lagos’ busiest industrial zones.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said no casualty had been recorded as of the time of filing this report.
Director Margaret Adeseye said firefighters and other emergency responders were already on ground to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby facilities.
The fire was also being contained by the fire service units of the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, which joined the response effort.
The exact cause of the fire was still unclear, but witnesses said a loud explosion-like sound was heard before flames were seen rising from the complex.
Residents and workers in the area fled for safety as the fire threatened adjoining tank farms and other facilities around the cluster.
Efforts to reach the management of Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm were not successful at the time of this report.
