INEC To Issue Access Code on June 26 for Candidate Uploads

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will issue an official Access Code on June 26 to political parties.

The code will allow the parties upload details of candidates who won in the recently concluded primaries.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting with national leaders of political parties.

Amupitan said the rising number of intra-party court cases is becoming a distraction for the commission.

He said INEC wants to focus on preparations for the 2027 general elections, but party disputes are slowing down that work.

He cautioned the parties that the success of the polls will depend on their willingness to follow electoral rules and timelines.

The commission’s latest step is part of early preparations for the next election cycle.

It also signals pressure on political parties to settle their internal disputes before candidate records are uploaded.

2027 Election Preparation Begins Early

The Access Code will give parties a formal window to submit the names and details of successful primary candidates.

That process is expected to help INEC organise its records and reduce errors ahead of the elections.

Amupitan’s warning suggests that internal party wrangles could affect the wider election timetable if not resolved quickly.

With the 2027 polls approaching, INEC says it expects parties to cooperate and stick to the guidelines already set out for the process.
