Recurring election hoaxes continue to saturate the Nigerian political landscape as the 2027 polls draw near.
Fabricated reports state that former President Goodluck Jonathan plans to contest the presidency.
Similarly, false stories allege that former Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode wants to seek office again.
These rumors persist despite clear signals from both leaders that they have no intention to run.
The Anglican Primate Advises Jonathan
In 2022, a northern group secretly purchased an APC presidential nomination form for Jonathan.
The former president quickly rejected the unapproved purchase and called it an insult to his person.
Furthermore, former First Lady Patience Jonathan stated in 2025 that they would not return to power.
Despite this, some groups recently staged a demonstration at his office to demand his entry into the race.
Jonathan responded that most of the protesters urging him to enter the race did not even possess valid voter cards.
Just yesterday, the Anglican Primate, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, publicly advised Jonathan to stay away from politics for now and maintain his international respect as a stateman.
The cleric stated that politics would only stain his good name.
The Lagos Governorship Rumours
Meanwhile, similar misinformation patterns are playing out in the Lagos State.
Many citizens wondered why Akinwunmi Ambode failed to visit stakeholders for endorsements.
However, the former governor has never indicated any interest in contesting the upcoming election.
Ambode dismissed those fabrications and affirmed his total loyalty to the ruling APC instead.
This repetitive cycle occurred in 2022, remains active in 2026, and may likely return in 2030.
