The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially released an updated timetable for its 2026 primary elections. This release comes alongside a revised structure for nomination fees following extensive consultations with party stakeholders.
In a formal statement, the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, detailed the party’s roadmap. Abdullahi, a former Minister of Sports, clarified that the purchase and submission of nomination forms will run from May 6 to May 13, 2026.
Screening of all aspirants is scheduled for May 14 and May 15. Subsequently, the party will publish the results of these screenings on May 17. For those seeking redress, the party will hear appeals between May 18 and May 19.
The final list of cleared aspirants is expected to be public on May 20. This schedule prepares the ground for a rapid series of elections across all legislative and executive levels.
Primary Election Schedule and Key Dates
According to the revised schedule, the ADC will hold primary elections for the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate on May 21. Following these, the governorship primaries will take place on May 22.
The highly anticipated presidential primary is slated for May 23, 2023. This process will conclude with a National Executive Committee meeting on May 25. Finally, a Special National Convention will hold on May 26 for official ratification.
“The adjustments are aimed at strengthening internal democracy, improving access and ensuring broader participation,” the party stated. This strategy aligns with its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Revised Nomination Fees and Concessions
The party also announced a new price list for its nomination forms. The presidential ticket is now pegged at ₦90 million, while the governorship form costs ₦30 million.
For legislative roles, the Senate ticket is ₦10 million, the House of Representatives is ₦5 million, and the State House of Assembly is ₦2 million. However, the ADC has maintained its concessionary policy.
The party offers a 50% discount for youth aspirants aged 18 to 35. Furthermore, women and persons with disabilities will receive a 25% discount on all nomination fees.
By implementing these discounts, the party seeks to lower the barrier to entry for marginalized groups. These steps reflect a commitment to a diverse representative pool as the political atmosphere heats up across Nigeria.
