Fifteen worshippers abducted during a vigil at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) No. 2, Eda‑Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti, are being held for a ₦1 billion ransom.
The incident occurred late Tuesday, April 28, leaving the community in shock. A guest pastor was killed during the attack, deepening the grief of residents.
On Wednesday, April 29, a government delegation visited the town to assess the situation. The team was led by retired Brigadier‑General Ebenezer Ogundana, Special Adviser on Security to Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The delegation also included the State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, and Ilejemeje Council Chairman, Pius Alaba.
Traditional Ruler Speaks On Kidnappers’ Demands
The Eleda of Eda‑Oniyo, Oba Joseph Awolola, confirmed the ransom demand during the delegation’s visit. He assured the government of the traditional council’s cooperation.
Alaba revealed that among those abducted was a family of four — a mother and her three children. He said efforts were ongoing to secure the release of all victims.
“Efforts are ongoing to facilitate the release of the kidnapped victims,” Alaba stated.
Security officials have begun investigations, while community leaders continue to appeal for urgent intervention.
The ransom demand adds to the anxieties and fears of escalating insecurity in Ekiti and the South West region.
Residents say the attack has disrupted religious life in the area, with many now afraid to attend night vigils.
