King Charles has admitted he “won’t see the long‑distant future” while speaking at a cultural event in New York, the latest stop on his state visit to the United States.
The monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, made the remark at the “Greater Together” gathering hosted at Christie’s auction house.
The event showcased UK culture in partnership with The King’s Trust, which has an American branch.
The evening drew A‑list guests including Lionel Richie, Anna Wintour, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Katherine Jenkins, Iman, and Donatella Versace.
Richie, a Global Ambassador for The King’s Trust, introduced Charles to the stage. The King joked: “I hesitate to make yet another speech.”
He described the event as a chance to celebrate the Trust and the “enduring bond” between the UK and US. He added: “Which of course is a relationship rooted in shared creativity, enterprise and values reminding us we are truly greater together.”
King’s Health And Legacy
Charles reflected on the Trust’s 50‑year journey. “It’s a wonderfully proud but extraordinary moment to think it’s 50 years since I started this Trust. Quite difficult to get it off the ground but we did,” he said.
He hailed the “difference it made” by investing in young people, building “self‑confidence” and creating “highly successful” businesses sold for millions.
Looking ahead, he remarked: “As we look to the future, I won’t see the long‑distance future, but I’m enormously grateful to you for what you can all do as supporters to help in this vital endeavour to champion the next generation.”
Charles’s cancer was first detected during treatment for an enlarged prostate in 2024. The Palace confirmed it was not prostate cancer. Last year, he announced: “My own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year.”
His words in New York suggest his determination to secure the Trust’s legacy for future generations.
