Germany has introduced a new online visa application portal, allowing applicants to manage their requests digitally through its Consular Services platform.
The initiative aims to simplify the process by making it more accessible, efficient, and secure.
Applicants can now submit forms, upload documents, and track progress without repeated visits to embassies or visa centres.
Officials confirmed that the portal supports multiple visa categories, offering clearer guidance on requirements and procedures.
How The Portal Works
A video shared by the German Embassy in Nigeria on Friday explained how the system works.
“The Consular Service Portal is an online application system for selected visas where you upload your documents on the portal. We pre-check to ensure it is complete, then invite you for an in-person appointment either at the Consulate in Lagos or at VFS for student visas.”
The portal covers student visas, researcher visas, work-related visas, and language courses.
By digitising consular services, Germany hopes to improve the user experience for applicants worldwide, including those in Nigeria.
The embassy says the new policy is in keeping with Germany’s wider push to modernise its consular operations, reduce paperwork, and streamline visa processing.
