Industrialist and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has been named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026.
The announcement was made on April 15, 2026, placing him alongside global leaders, innovators, and cultural icons.
Dangote, Founder and President of Dangote Group, is the only Nigerian featured this year.
“Harmonisation must be pragmatic and context-driven. We must align ambition with execution realities,” TIME’s citation read, highlighting his industrial drive and philanthropic leadership.
Nigeria’s Titan on the Global Stage
This is Dangote’s second appearance on the TIME100 list, following his first recognition in 2014.
He was honoured then for his impact on business and philanthropy. Today, he is listed under the “Titans and Innovators” category.
Other honorees in this category include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, American designer Ralph Lauren, and Michael and Susan Dell, founders of the Dell Foundation.
Reid Wiseman, Commander of the Artemis II mission to the moon, also features prominently.
Dangote’s recognition shows his role in advancing Africa’s industrialisation.
Under his leadership, the Dangote Group has invested in cement, sugar, food processing, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy. These ventures have reduced Africa’s reliance on imports while creating millions of jobs.
“Our vision is to build African industries with local resources for global competitiveness,” TIME quoted Dangote, noting his recent investments in large‑scale energy and manufacturing infrastructure.
Philanthropy and Global Influence
Beyond business, Dangote is acclaimed for his philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF).
The Foundation supports healthcare, nutrition, education, disaster relief, and economic empowerment. It is one of Africa’s largest private philanthropic organisations.
TIME’s recognition reflects a broader acknowledgement of African leadership and innovation.
Dangote’s inclusion may be a signal to the continent’s growing influence in shaping global economic and development narratives.
Other categories in the TIME100 list include pioneers such as Kiran Musunuru and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas, recognised for breakthroughs in genetic therapy, and Aaron Williams, cited for advancements in heart transplant readiness.
Cultural icons such as Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson also feature.
