Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has officially announced he will leave Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Egyptian forward shared the emotional message to fans this week.

He described his nine-year stay at the club as the best time of his life. Both parties agreed to end his contract one year early.

This allows the 33-year-old star to leave as a free agent this summer.

Salah joined the Reds from AS Roma in 2017. Since then, he has become one of the greatest players in the history of the club.

He scored 255 goals in 435 appearances and won every major trophy available.

Sky Sports reported that his final match at Anfield will likely be against Brentford on May 24.

This match falls on the final day of the Premier League season. Fans are already preparing a massive farewell for the man they call the “Egyptian King.”

Record Breaking Goals And Major Trophies Define Anfield Legacy

Salah helped Liverpool end a 30-year wait for a league title. He also led the team to UEFA Champions League glory in 2019.

His teammates have wasted no time in sharing their thoughts on his departure. Andy Robertson called him the greatest player he has played with.

“I am incredibly proud of everything we achieved together at this club,” Salah stated. He added that the bond with the fans made every goal feel special.

“Liverpool will always be my home and I thank you for your unwavering support throughout my career,” he added.

Cody Gakpo also hailed the forward as a true legend of the game.

However, this season has not been without its challenges. Salah alleged that he struggled for form at times. There were also reports of a fallout with head coach Arne Slot during the campaign.

Saudi Arabia And America Lead Race For Star Forward

Despite the drama, Salah remains committed to finishing the season with more silverware.

Liverpool is still competing for the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

His exit will also help the club manage its finances. He is currently the highest-paid player in the history of Liverpool.

“Leaving this club was not an easy decision to make,” Salah stated. He said that he wants to leave while the team is still at the top.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia and the American Major League Soccer are currently showing great interest. He has not yet decided on his next destination.

Salah is a global icon for African football. His departure marks the end of an era for one of the most successful teams in modern history.

It also opens up a huge gap in the Liverpool squad for a new star to emerge.
